A few years ago, the idea was proposed that Journey Canada offer a seminar on sexual addiction to help pastors understand how those in their church might be struggling, and how to help them. What followed was the development of a new series of seminars: the Pastoral Approaches Seminars.
The Pastoral Approaches Seminars are a newly developed offering of Journey Canada, through which Journey staff and leaders provide experience-based equipping and insight to Christian leaders on topics of particular relevance to the church today.
Drawing on the collective expertise and ministry experience of the Journey Canada leadership, each seminar offers a theological framework for understanding relationships and sexuality, an exploration of cultural and psychological factors, practical pastoral guidelines, and real-life stories.
The first seminar offered was a full-day training on the growing reality of sexually addictive behaviour (2012). Pastoral Approaches: sexually addictive behaviour has now been offered in cities across Canada, and has helped shape the understanding and pastoral approach of hundreds of leaders to date.
This past Spring, we began offering a new seminar: Pastoral Approaches: the church and same-sex attraction. First offered in Calgary, Winnipeg, and most recently in Edmonton, the response to this seminar has been hugely positive! The Edmonton seminar had over 120 attendees, comprised mostly of pastors and denominational leaders. We have been strongly encouraged to continue offering this timely seminar across Canada to as many Christian leaders as possible.
We feel compelled to continue this path of educating and empowering, so that the Church in Canada can embrace its pastoral responsibility towards sexually struggling individuals with increased confidence, sensitivity, compassion and faithfulness. Please pray with us as we continue to do this vital work.
